The new Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG = WEEE Germany) came into force on 24 th October 2015. From 24 th July 2016, stationary retail sellers from a sales surface of 400 sqm for electrical devices respectively online retailers with a sales and shelf space from 400 sqm on (according to the information of the Federal Ministry for the Environment) have to take back used electrical devices free of charge. In practical terms, this would mean that retailers need to provide take-back options on site or in immediate proximity. Online retailers have to prove take-back options at an acceptable distance to the corresponding end customers all over the German federal territory. In addition to that, comprehensive registration, reporting and reference requirements need to be complied with. It is not admissible to refer to public-law collection points.
take-e-way provides the take-back system for the trade according to the ElektroG
The solution: The take-e-way system is a mutual take-back system for medium-sized retailers. At this, also online retailers are available mutually as take-back points. With immediate effect take-e-way will include concerned retailers into its system.
Simple all-round system
take-e-way provides a simple all-round system to all concerned retailers and online retailers which covers all legal obligations:
- First registration of the retailer at the foundation EAR (Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register = German WEEE registration board)
- Depending on the free space in the shop, a collection container (compliant in terms of the ADR = dangerous goods regulations) with a capacity between 0.5 and 1 cubic meter for small electrical devices and for lithium batteries.
- Two free of charge collections per year
- Assumption of the annual quantity reports and recycling certificates
- The integration of the return quantities by parcel services and forwarding agents, if required
