As Heise.de now reports, the EU Parliament has agreed on a resolution that prescribes a uniform charging cable for electrical appliances. Smartphones, tablets, speakers and other devices must have a USB-C port in the future. Now only the member states still need to approve the final decision. This is considered a formality. Final approval is to be given at the end of October, and the regulation is to be put into practice from autumn 2024.
“The decision makes USB-C ports mandatory for mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, mobile game consoles, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, computer mice, portable navigation systems and charging cases of in-ear headphones. Somewhat later, probably in 2026, USB-C connections will then also become mandatory for laptops,” Heise continues.
