Union demands QR codes for consumer information on packaging

At the European level, the Federal Government should work towards the introduction of the digital product passport to ensure that the information it contains is “clear, comprehensible and helpful for consumers”. In addition, the prerequisites must be created to place the necessary product information on packaging by means of QR codes, the draft states.

Evidently, the aim is to promote conscious purchasing decisions. The MEPs also urge, among other things, to revise the Consumer Information Act (Verbraucherinformationsgesetz, VIG) and to present a nationwide uniform overall concept for a “coherent transparency system”.
