Standardised chargers in the draft law

Mobile phones, tablets, notebooks, digital cameras, eBook readers and headphones are affected. The new regulations will apply to most devices from 28 December 2024.

As reported by the Bundestag, the industry is to offer consumers standardised charging cables for mobile phones, tablets, notebooks, digital cameras, eBook readers and headphones in future and harmonise the interfaces. This is provided for in the German government's draft bill (20/9873), which aims to transpose a corresponding EU directive into national law.

According to the draft law, the project is intended to increase consumer friendliness, conserve resources and reduce electronic waste. The new regulations are to apply to most devices from 28 December 2024 and to all devices from 28 April 2028.
