France to adapt sorting instructions

The EU Commission criticises the fact that France has not provided sufficient justification for the necessity of these regulations and that less restrictive alternatives would be possible.

The European Commission is calling on France to adapt its regulations on the labelling of waste sorting instructions, as these hinder the free movement of goods in the EU internal market (take-e-way reported: EU proceedings against labelling in France). France currently requires the "Triman logo" and the sorting information "Infotri" on household products. The Commission criticises the fact that France has not provided sufficient justification for the necessity of these regulations and that less restrictive alternatives would be possible. In addition, the Commission believes that France has violated the EU Transparency Directive, as the relevant law was not notified in good time. France now has two months to take action, otherwise the Commission could refer the case to the European Court of Justice.
