EU Packaging Regulation passes Parliament

The EU Packaging Regulation is expected to come into force at the beginning of 2025. Only the vote of the Council is required for the final adoption.

As Euwid reports, the European Parliament gave its tacit approval to the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) on 27 November 2024.

Only the vote of the Council is required for the final adoption. This will be followed by publication in the EU Official Journal. The PPWR is expected to enter into force at the beginning of 2025, with the application of many of its provisions beginning after a transitional period of 18 months.

According to the Packaging Journal, the EU Environment Committee (ENVI) had already adopted the revised text as part of the rectification procedure on 25 November 2024 without objections. The EU Parliament then formally approved it. The corrections are therefore deemed to have been adopted.

The next PPWR date is 16 December 2024, when the members of the EU Commission will have another opportunity for a Q&A session.
