Omnibus regulation on 26/02/2025

The publication date for the omnibus regulation to streamline the CSRD and CSDDD is 26 February 2025, which gives hope for deregulation.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on 8 November 2024 that certain existing and future EU ESG reporting obligations should be combined in an "omnibus" regulation and their requirements streamlined. This will particularly affect the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) (trade-e-bility reported: Omnibus Regulation for CSRD and CSDDD).

While the publication of the Omnibus Regulation has so far only been roughly announced for 2025, there is increasing information that an early publication date is being sought. According to reports from Forbes, ESG News and Fair Economics, this is likely to be 26 February 2025.

According to ESG News, a French Green MEP is quoted as saying: "Although it is said that simplification does not mean deregulation, I fear that this is exactly what is on the table." The statement is interesting in light of the fact that LexBlog previously argued that von der Leyen's announcement that the content of the CSRD and CSDDD regulations will be retained, indicates that the combined omnibus regulation will not reduce the material reporting obligations for companies.

We can only hope that 26 February 2025 will shed some light on this. trade-e-bility will be happy to keep you informed.
