WEEE Germany: Demand for e-mobility and leisure equipment is growing again

It is important for distributors actively engaged in the field of e-mobility and leisure equipment to note that according to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act in Germany, these product ranges include several so-called “types of equipment”. Please review your range of electrical products with regard to classification.

It is important for distributors actively engaged in the field of e-mobility and leisure equipment to note that according to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) in Germany, these product ranges include several so-called “types of equipment”.

For instance, e-scooters, which do not require a road traffic permit, and e-bikes are classified as “Large equipment” under the ElektroG. All accessories such as bicycle lights, bicycle computers and also running computers and fitness trackers are classified under the device type of “Small equipment up to max. 50cm” – in this case, also for electric motors.

In the case of lighting systems whose light sources can be replaced without effort by non-professionals, for instance, LEDs must be registered under equipment type “Lamps, except gas discharge lamps”.

In contrast, radar warning devices and GPS devices are classified differently, namely as “Small IT and telecommunication equipment up to max. 50cm”.

Please review your range of electrical products with regard to their classification. Brands may also have been added that you are selling for the first time.

As the first distributor on the German market, you are required to register the brand in accordance with the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act. Only if your supplier has already registered the type of equipment and this particular brand you will be exempted from this obligation.

take-e-way will be pleased to support you with the registration of further brands and types of equipment in a proven manner. If you have any questions, please call Elisabeth Westermann and the take-e-way team of consultants on +49/40/750687-0 or send an e-mail to beratung@take-e-way.de.
