As reported by the EU Commission, it aims to improve working conditions and social standards in supply chains across the globe. Since voluntary due diligence obligations on the part of companies in third countries have not become the norm, the Commission intends to initiate legislative projects next year to ensure that globally operating companies from Europe also assume responsibility along their supply chains and at their production sites outside Europe. Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will also be affected.
At both national and European level, legislators are thus increasingly seeking not only to intensify market surveillance, but also to make economic operators responsible for their products and production channels (supply chains).
