New registration obligation for packaging in Spain

The Spanish packaging law obliges producers to register their packaging. Distributors from abroad must also register through an authorised representative if they sell packaged products in Spain.

Further additives in tobacco products and liquids classified as hazardous

In a publication dated 2 July 2021, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has classified further additives in tobacco or liquids as hazardous. These include the additives guar gum and sorbitol. This classification by the BfR means that a ban is to be expected for these additives.

In a publication dated 2 July 2021, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has classified further additives in tobacco or liquids as hazardous. These include the additives guar gum and sorbitol. Both substances were already on the priority list for the EU Tobacco Products Directive. Substances on the priority list are to be evaluated regarding their hazards within 18 months in accordance with Article 6 of this Regulation. This classification by the BfR means that a ban is to be expected for these additives.
