France: Triman and Info-Tri on furniture

The information for the consumer always consists of the Triman symbol together with the info-tri (sorting information), which have to be displayed together. It applies to household furniture, both to indoor and to outdoor furniture.

Certain products placed on the French market have to be labelled with the Triman symbol and the info-tri (sorting information). This also concerns furniture. If you bring furniture onto the French market, this information is highly relevant for you.

What is the sorting information about?

According to the decree n°2021-835 from 29th June 2021, all French take-back systems have to develop a sorting information per waste stream, with the purpose to help the consumers sort their waste correctly. For each waste stream (e. g. electrical and electronic appliances, batteries, textiles and household packaging) different pictograms have been published.

The information for the consumer always consists of the Triman symbol together with the info-tri (sorting information), which have to be displayed together. It applies to household furniture, both to indoor and to outdoor furniture. Furniture for professional use is not concerned by these labelling requirements.

Time schedule for the implementation

The sorting information came into force on 9th December 2021 and has to be implemented by December 2022 at the latest. An additional transition period is being granted until June 2023 for the sale of stocks manufactured or imported into France before December 2022.
