European countries warn against dangerous products

In addition to warnings about leaking or toxic Corona masks and electrical appliances and accessories, one in five cases from the past year involved children’s toys in which hazardous chemicals or button batteries in particular were discovered. The most common problems reported in connection with electrical equipment and accessories related to the danger of live parts being touched by operators and overheating problems.

As ChannelObserver reported, European countries issued 2,142 warnings about dangerous products last year. According to the report, this mainly involved recalls due to technical problems.

In the EU rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products, some 30 European states and the EU Commission exchange information on products. This allows other countries to quickly check whether products are also circulating on the domestic market, and initiate recalls, for instance. In the year 2020, 2,253 cases were reported, similar to the number registered in 2021.

In addition to warnings about leaking or toxic Corona masks and electrical appliances and accessories, one in five cases from the past year involved children’s toys in which hazardous chemicals or button batteries in particular were discovered. In addition to chemicals, the focus of measures for toys was on hazardous button batteries contained therein. The most common problems reported in connection with electrical equipment and accessories related to the danger of live parts being touched by operators as well as overheating problems, as reported by the EU Commission.
