On 26 February 2025, the European Commission presented a comprehensive package (Omnibus 1) to simplify EU regulations, which is intended to relieve companies of bureaucratic requirements. As reported by Forstpraxis, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) was not included in the current omnibus package. Representatives of the forestry industry criticise this, as the EUDR in its current form is seen as a bureaucratic burden. They are therefore calling for adjustments so as not to place a disproportionate burden on the domestic forestry industry.
To the relief of companies, the EUDR was recently postponed by one year and thus remains on track - the deadline is steadily approaching (trade-e-bility reported: EUDR postponement is official). The final text corresponds to the EU Commission's original proposal and has lost none of its explosiveness. Products such as wood, rubber, cattle, palm oil, leather, cocoa, coffee and soya are affected. Large market participants and traders must comply with the obligations of the EUDR from 30 December 2025, micro and small enterprises from 30 June 2026.
In addition, the EUDR was editorially corrected by corrigendum 2025/90188 of 28 February 2025, which went virtually unnoticed in the fuss surrounding the Omnibus 1 package. Here, however, only the word "Verordnung" was replaced by the word "Richtlinie". The amendment has no other apparent impact on the content.
