Hungary: Environmental Product Charge cancelled

Companies not based in Hungary are required to register if they sell electrical appliances, batteries or packaging directly to Hungarian end users.

For companies not based in Hungary, there was a legal obligation to register for an Environmental Product Charge (EPC) until the end of 2024, in addition to the EU-wide Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations. In practice, this was not associated with additional fees, as costs were only charged for EPR registrations. However, EPC registrations were time-consuming; various documents (certified translations, notarised specimen signatures, etc.) had to be provided. Fortunately, from January 2025, the Hungarian authorities have decided to abolish the formal separate EPC scheme for all waste streams that are already covered by the regular EPR obligations, such as for electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), batteries and packaging. We are pleased to be able to offer our customers a much faster and less complicated registration process in Hungary

Attention: There is an obligation to register in Hungary even for companies not based in Hungary if they sell directly to Hungarian end users. Do you place electrical appliances, batteries or packaging on the market in Hungary?

We would be happy to support you in ensuring the conformity of your company when selling on the Hungarian market. The take-e-way consulting team will be happy to assist you at +49/40/750687-0 or consulting@take-e-way.de.
