New regulation on ecodesign of external power supply units

The current regulation governs the maximum energy consumption of external power supply units, for instance. Topics such as promoting power supply interoperability, facilitating the USB power supply protocol, and improving consumer information requirements will now be further addressed.

On 25 January 2022, the EU Commission announced plans to review Regulation (EU) 2019/1782 and update it to reflect future requirements. The current regulation governs the maximum energy consumption of external power supply units, for example. Topics such as promoting power supply interoperability, facilitating the USB power supply protocol, and improving consumer information requirements will now be further addressed. Adoption by the Commission is planned for the third quarter of 2023.

Economic operators affected, such as manufacturers, importers and fulfilment service providers, should ideally participate in the design of the draft regulation or at least prepare for the upcoming device requirements at an early stage.
