On the occasion of Black Friday, environmental organisations once again criticised the destruction of returns and called on Environment Minister Lemke to issue specific legal regulations. The VERE e.V. Association and take-e-way GmbH have been trying for 20 years to avert any further legal constraints through effective solutions in the face of ever-increasing bureaucracy, which places a heavy burden on sellers and producers. This also applies to the destruction of returns and the reuse of electrical appliances.
For the recycling of appliances, take-e-way uses partners who check returns for reuse and confirm this check, as well as determining the reuse rate of our participating sellers and producers. In the context of waste avoidance, every appliance to be disposed of must be tested for possible reuse before recycling. take-e-way only commissions recycling facilities with certification for testing for reuse. Once this test has been carried out and reuse can be ruled out, each appliance is disposed of in a legally compliant manner. In this way, waste avoidance gets the attention it deserves. Furthermore, returns are not exclusively due to the supposedly misguided consumption of consumers. In our view, this conclusion falls short of the mark. Complaints, insurance claims, technical repairs to products that cannot be carried out by retailers or customs complaints due to incorrect product labelling can be legitimate reasons for returns.
Here too, take-e-way offers returns processing, repair and relabelling as an after-sales service for sellers and producers, providing a solution that takes effect long before any recycling takes place and is therefore diametrically opposed to the blanket destruction of returns. These measures can prevent reusable goods from being unnecessarily destroyed at the expense of the environment and enable them to be remarketed as B-goods, for example, if desired. Relabelling the goods with legally required markings can be an economical and ecological alternative. Here, too, it is not necessary to destroy entire batches due to missing or incorrect labelling.
