The EU has simplified the procedure for supplying the EU market with a recommendation to notified bodies for respiratory masks. Respiratory masks are considered personal protective equipment of category III and are subject to mandatory certification. The implementing notified bodies often constitute a bottleneck in terms of implementation. The certification procedure is now faster and more cost-effective.

Affected manufacturers and importers or distributors of respiratory masks can now rely on the new recommendation to quickly eliminate the bottlenecks supply shortages for respiratory masks in the EU (reference: (EU) Recommendation 2020/403 on (EU) Regulation 2016/425 for personal protective equipment).
