Copyright fees soon also for games?

Games manufacturers have so far not made use of the private copying remuneration from the manufacturers of PCs, smartphones and storage media and have now founded a collecting society through which they can get their legal share in Germany in future.

As IT Times reports, games companies have so far not made use of the private copying allowance offered by manufacturers of PCs, smartphones and storage media. By founding the Verwertungsgesellschaft für die Hersteller von Games mbH (VHG) (a royalties collection society for the producers of games), games producers in Germany will be able to obtain their legal share in the future.

Members of VERE e.V. association, as manufacturers, importers and distributors of products subject to levies under the German Copyright Act (UrhG), have the opportunity to accede to an overall agreement and save 20 per cent of the copyright fees demanded by ZPÜ. Currently, you can join overall contracts for mobile phones, tablets, PCs, USB sticks and memory cards, smartwatches, hard drives and external burners through VERE e.V.
