Amazon requires proof of product conformity

As of now, it is the responsibility of the seller or vendor on Amazon to ensure in good time that products, including packaging, comply with the legislation applicable. Moreover, product safety and compliance guidelines must be adhered to. It is recommended to upload the requested information by the due date to avoid a possible suspension of your offerings listed on Amazon.

As e-commerce-magazin.de reports, Amazon now requires you to provide evidence to verify that the products you offer comply with the legislation and government certifications mentioned. Amazon writes the following in this regard: “If you offer a product, you must provide the required information and display it on the product detail page. We reserve the right to remove an offer that lacks required markings, warnings and labels.” This concerns, for example, electronic equipment, toys, textile products and many other non-food products. For you, this means the following:

To make it easier to manage compliance, Amazon provides its sellers and vendors with a new "Product Safety Compliance Dashboard" to submit required compliance information to Amazon.

In addition, Amazon specifies a due date for uploading the required documents. The above report recommends uploading the requested information by the due date shown to avoid a possible suspension of your offerings listed on Amazon. Here you will find the Compliance Dashboard in Seller Central and the Dashboard in Vendor Central, respectively.

Dashboard for responsible person: Furthermore, the EU Regulation on Market Surveillance and Conformity of Products for Product Safety calls for the indication of a responsible person or company for product conformity of products bearing a CE marking and intended for sale in the European Union as of 16 July 2021. In order to make it easier to appoint responsible persons, Amazon has created a VP Dashboard where you can provide responsible person information for all your brands’ CE marked products that you offer in the EU. Products for which CE marking is required are medical equipment, electronic equipment, toys, protective equipment, gas products, pressure vessels and measuring instruments. The complete list can be found on the European Commission’s website.

Although this change initially only affects sellers who have products with a CE mark in their product catalogue, in the future this will affect all sellers in the EU in the wake of the Product Safety Regulation (GPSR)

Conclusion: With immediate effect, it is the responsibility of the seller or vendor on Amazon to ensure in good time that products, including packaging, comply with the legislation applicable. In addition, product safety and compliance guidelines must be adhered to for all marketplaces where sales take place.
