Amazon: Loss of the right to sell in the absence of product safety

Amazon has established a comprehensive product safety and compliance programme (PARS). This enables you to boost your sales success story on Amazon and prevent your offers from being blocked or even having your selling privileges revoked.

Amazon has established a comprehensive product safety and compliance programme (PARS - Product Assurance, Risk, and Security). In particular, the Market Surveillance Ordinance has induced Amazon to adopt numerous control and information measures. With reference to the uniquely assigned article (ASIN) number, the compliance status of individual products is queried both actively and reactively (for FBA and MFN sellers).

Accordingly, Amazon has a proactive and a reactive strategy to ensure product compliance. As part of the proactive strategy, Amazon requests e.g., registration numbers, safety declarations or technical documents for individual pieces of legislation such as WEEE or REACH. Moreover, Amazon – according to its own information – scans customer reviews to see whether potential risks are reported for individual products and then inspects other similar products.

Amazon monitors recalls from various sources and then bans products identified as unsafe from its platform. As a reactive measure, Amazon removes unsafe products within business days when public authorities report such a product to Amazon.

Amazon also reports that the products you offer on Amazon must comply with all applicable Amazon policies and all applicable laws and regulations. This enables you to boost your sales success story on Amazon and prevent your offers from being blocked or even having your selling privileges revoked.

Under Amazon’s policies, certain products sold via Amazon must meet the certification standards stipulated therein. On this page you will find a list of product types that are subject to these restrictions.

The list includes, among many other non-food products, electrical appliances such as:

We have meanwhile gained a great deal of experience with Amazon’s procedure and have already been able to help some of our customers to get their products back on sale.

If you have any questions about product safety or need assistance with the necessary documents for Amazon, the trade-e-bility consultants will be pleased to help you.
