On 22 March 2024, the Federal Ministry of Justice published a draft for the German implementation of the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
According to verbaende.com, the German government estimates the compliance costs for businesses for the implementation of the CSRD at around 1.4 billion euros per year. The German government also states that these are exclusively bureaucratic costs.
Due diligence obligations in the areas of governance, social and environmental issues are an increasingly important part of European and German legislation. In addition to requirements for due diligence obligations in the supply chain or sustainability reporting, these due diligence obligations are also integrated into product requirements such as the EU Battery Regulation.
